Denice was born and raised in Western North Carolina where her family of original still resides. She has been around the world and is now back home. After an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of San Diego, working as a paralegal and raising a family, she attended law school at the William S. Richardson School of Law in Honolulu, Hawaii. Thereafter Denice practiced in the areas of products liability, personal injury and labor and employment law litigation. After 13 years in the islands, in 2004 Ms. von Gnechten returned to North Carolina where she set up her own practice.
